Getting Started with AutoCAD
Step 1: Enter the License Key
After you’ve purchased AutoCAD, you can activate the software. To do so, follow these steps:
On your computer, launch AutoCAD and click on Help > License Key. Type in the license key and click OK to confirm.
You will see the following message:
AutoCAD Setup 14.2 (1) – License Expiration Date: 11/11/2013 11:59:59 PM is needed. (2) – Click OK to confirm license key and activate the software. (3) – To continue, restart AutoCAD.
Step 2: Download the AutoCAD Desktop Software
If you don’t already have AutoCAD, download the latest version of AutoCAD. There are three different versions of AutoCAD that are available. For an online license, you’ll need the 64-bit version of AutoCAD for x86 platform.
If you don’t have AutoCAD already, you can also buy AutoCAD for Mac for US$600. It is recommended to buy the 64-bit edition as it requires more system resources.

Step 3: Activate AutoCAD
After you have downloaded and installed AutoCAD, you can activate it. This can be done by clicking on Help > License Key > License Key. Type in the license key and click OK.
Step 4: Install the OpenLayers Plugin
Download and install the OpenLayers Plugin, which can be done by clicking on File > Options. After that, click on the Application Content Tab.
Select the Plug-in Types > OpenLayers Plug-in. Click the Install Button to complete the installation.
Step 5: Prepare the Default Document
You can setup the default document if you want. Click on File > New to create a new drawing.
Step 6: Import Models and Drawings
After the drawing is created, the drawings and models can be imported.

History
AutoCAD was first developed for the Apple Macintosh, with the first public version, 1.0, released on May 25, 1989. It was not as successful as some other Apple products, but was notable for pioneering new methods of object-oriented programming in the field of CAD. These innovations in programming made the release of the ObjectARX plugin and later the Windows version possible, enabling 3D modeling, a simple user interface, and object-oriented programming in the CAD field. Because of the nature of programming for the Mac platform, many of the innovations in the field of CAD programming were not available on non-Mac platforms until much later.
While the original Mac version was released before AutoCAD was first introduced to the Windows world, the first major release of AutoCAD for Windows was AutoCAD LT, which was introduced in February 2008.

AutoCAD LT 1.0 was released in February 2008. At that time, it was the first completely vector-based 2D drafting and 2D modeling software for Windows. AutoCAD LT allows you to draw a freehand curve or freehand line or trace over an existing vector shape.
AutoCAD LT 1.0 had a feature called “Theory.” For example, you could apply a surface based on the shape of a pin or bolt.
