In general:

• Images are generally imported into Photoshop as layers.

• The image you want to modify or manipulate is known as the “active” layer. This layer and all layers underneath it are known as an “active image,” and the Photoshop window or editing view that you are working in is known as the “active document.”

• A single layer of an image is known as a “layer.”

• You can combine individual layers into one layer, and these combined layers are known as “group layers.” Group layers allow for much easier manipulation and control of the image when layers are combined.

• An “object” is a visible structure within an image that can have settings changed to make it appear differently.

• You can “lock” objects so that they appear in one fixed position.

• You can “hide” objects so that they appear as empty areas.

• You can create a “layer mask” to move and manipulate certain parts of a layer.

• You can “soft-proof” your image to test the changes to see how the changes will look before making a “hard copy.”

• A “raster image” is a digital image stored on your computer.

• An “alpha channel” allows you to “mask” a raster image with transparency by adjusting the alpha channel of the layer that has the raster in it.

• You can change the “color mode” of an image by selecting it from the Image menu on the top of your screen.

• You can adjust the “saturation” of an image by selecting it from the Saturation palette in Photoshop Elements.

• The “Color Picker” is a selector that allows you to choose a color from a range of colors based on the color wheel.

• You can “erase” parts of an image by selecting them with the

Adobe Elements 7

What Is Photoshop Elements?

Elements is a product by Adobe with two versions, Photoshop Elements (for photo editing) and Photoshop Creative Suite (for broader graphic image editing).

The new Elements 14 and 15, released on November 2018, merged the Photoshop Elements and Photoshop Creative Suite editions into a single software, called Photoshop (the new Elements).

Adobe Photoshop Elements gives you a lot of what you need to create images, GIFs and other digital media. It includes text and graphics tools and also digital camera RAW support.

It has a great user interface for basic editing tasks. However, it lacks some features of the professional version (such as layers and masks, for example).

It comes with a 32 and 64 GB (for Mac) or a 25 GB (for Windows) installable flash drive. There is a free version to get started, but, of course, the advanced features of Photoshop Elements require a subscription.

The software offers most of the features and functions of the professional version, but with a simpler user interface and fewer features.

It has been designed to provide most of the tools for photo editing as well as basic graphic editing.

How Does Photoshop Elements Work?

Elements can be used to edit images, but it also offers a range of tools for designers to create and edit web pages, logos, graphics, comics and more.

The user interface is intuitive and simple, so anyone can get started quickly. However, if you want to create and save high-quality images, you may need Photoshop.

You have access to four specialised tools:

The Magic Wand – used to select parts of an image.

– used to select parts of an image. The Pen Tool – for fine adjustments to objects in the photo.

– for fine adjustments to objects in the photo. The Lasso Tool – used to select and move objects in an image.

– used to select and move objects in an image. The Quick Selection Tool – used to select parts of an image that you don’t want to change.

Overall, the user interface is quite similar to that of the Photoshop tools, and there are a lot of tutorials, blogs and help files that will help you get to grips with the software.

The processes are quite straightforward.

What’s New In?

2. Layers
Layers are an essential part of Photoshop. They allow you to design, position and edit your image using various Photoshop tools. For example, the background can be divided into parts using layers to make it easier to edit and later combine to create a seamless result. In addition to layers for positioning and editing, Photoshop supports layers for your image content. Layers are used to either add text or other effects to the base layer. You can use layers for effects such as water color, transparent layers, and many more.
To use Photoshop layers:
a. Open the image you wish to edit.
b. Right click anywhere on the image and select New > Layer.
c. Place the new layer anywhere on the canvas of your image and click OK.
d. Resize the layer if needed.
e. Highlight the layer(s) you wish to move or edit.
f. Drag one or more layers onto another layer or onto the ‘Move’ icon on the layers panel.
g. Then use the selection tools to move and edit the layers.

3. Channels
Photoshop has channels that allow you to edit and easily move parts of an image without editing the main image. You can duplicate a specific channel from the layers panel, send it to its own channel group (and then its own folder), and edit it separately.
You can use Photoshop channels in the following ways:
a. Duplicate a specific channel from the layers panel to a new channel group, folder, or to the main image.
b. Select a specific channel to edit, copy it, drag it, or send it to another destination, using the channels panel.
c. Invert, add, remove or move channels using the channels panel.
